we see in the proposals a direct threat to Christian teaching and practice regarding marriage and sexuality. Suggestions have been made that policies to end conversion therapy should cover activity that represses or supresses someone’s sexuality or gender identity. This poses a very real threat to church teaching, discipleship activities and prayer ministry; even a conversation between two friends could fall foul of such a law. Anything that is viewed as persuading someone not to act on same-sex attraction – i.e. promoting chastity outside of heterosexual marriage and fidelity within – is at risk.

Conversion Therapy

Conversion therapy is an abhorrent practise and that no individual should have to go through this harmful practise because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The government promised to outlaw conversion therapy back in 2018. Conversion therapy has been condemned by all medical bodies, as well as the Church of England. There is also widespread support for a ban across most of the UK’s political parties, the Labour Party has consistently called for legislation for it to be banned.

The fact that this should continue to be an issue in 2021 is obscene. Conversion therapy should already be illegal.

LGBT conversion therapies are disgusting, exploitative, damaging and a relic of bigotry. In 2021, we recognise better than ever what illness and disease look like. Being gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans is not a sickness; it is a fundamental part of an individual’s very identity. So-called LGBT conversion therapies need to be banned.

LGBT+ deserve to live with dignity and respect. Nobody should be made to feel ashamed of themselves because of who they are or who they love, and that is why we need to ban conversion therapy as soon as possible.

Sheffield Labour have a proud record as allies of the LGBT+ community and all LGBT+ people in the city. Please be assured that we want to continue to do everything in our power to make sure Sheffield is an inclusive city.

Clearly the ban on conversion therapy requires national legislation and is outside the remit of the council, but we will continue to oppose the practice and support the introduction of the ban.

While the world out there is in chaos, confusion and gripped by fear, we - the people of God - need not be worried, in fact we are commanded not to be fearful! So let's be of good cheer, and let's continue to be about the Father's business, the Kingdom of God which is ruled by one King, and His name is Jesus, and He is also the Prince of Peace. That peace is a sure knowledge and confidence, that our future is secure in Him. Who can separate us from the love of God? Oh yes, let's remind ourselves!

"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39 [The New Living Translation]

During the Covid-19 lockdown we continue to meet on Zoom, we livestream, and we encourage one another on Sundays and also mid-week prayer times. Once the restrictions are lifted, we look forward to meeting in the physical again! Stay in touch, and stay close to Jesus.

Founded by leaders Andy & Heidi Tiplady in 2005, Bushfire has the DNA of revival running through its veins. With a church base in the north of Sheffield, there is a contingency of believers in Sheffield and across the world, who believe that there will be a mighty end time harvest of souls. We also believe the words of Jesus said in Matthew 24 that there will be an increase of difficulties both in society, in nations, and in the physical earth.

Andy and Heidi dedicate themselves to prayer and to the equipping of a body of people to love on, teach and nurture the coming souls, and to be the answer to many, as times become difficult. The prophet Isaiah in chapter 60 spoke of a coming time when God will arise in and shine both on and through a people, and that many will come to the true Light. We believe Jesus when He said that HE IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. Equally, He said to His disciples and to us as believers, that 'YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD'. This light will truly shine in the darkest of times. Get ready, join us on this journey
