I owe you a big apology for waiting so long to write to you. I was about
to write but then I started on a campaign against bullfighting in
Southern France and I thought I would wait a bit longer so that I could
have more to tell you about - I was completely mistaken to wait. An
email to you was very important. I was very pleased to receive your
original email and I'm so pleased to hear from you again. Yes, we'll
keep in touch. I'm so sorry for giving the impression that I wasn't
interested in keeping in touch.
There have been problems and challenges of different kinds facing me -
nothing to do with my anti-bullfighting work. Some of the difficulties
have been tedious and very time-consuming, nothing more - I had to buy a
new computer to replace my old, underpowered one and although I had a
specialist program to transfer the files from old to new computer, most
of them were mangled by the program and have taken a long time to sort
out, although the job isn't finished yet.
I've been contacting a wide range of people in France about the corrida,
writing in French, and at the moment I'm working on a French translation
of my bullfighting page, so that users of Google in France (and other
French speaking countries) have it available in French. One of the
people I contacted earlier today is the head of the Fondation van Gogh
in Arles. When I went to Arles, I was so disappointed to find this
place devoted to the Dutch artist next to the bullfighting arena. During
my visit to Arles, a place which I loathed, I staged a one-man protest
at the tourist offices. In September of this year, a bullfight was
staged in the arena with a van Gogh theme - there was an attempt at
producing a large image of a van Gogh artwork in the sand of the arena.
Hideous! Shocking! Disgusting! Deeply depressing. I wrote to the person
who's head of the Fondation earlier today to let her know where she was
going wrong, badly wrong. Since then, I've found a Youtube video of part
of the bullfight,

the so-called artwork didn't last long once the bullfight was under way.
(I see the need to find a new word for 'bullfight,' one which makes
clear the gross cruelty of the event. This is far from being a 'fair
fight.' I've posted a comment in French in the comments section. I've
posted a very large number of similar comments on other Youtube videos
recently - videos on corridas in places such as Arles and videos on
ordinary tourism in the South of France. The towns there depend so much
upon tourists and I see the need to put as much critical opinion as
possible in the public domain.
The anti-bullfighting page isn't a complete record, far from it. Over
the years, I've written to a very large number of people and
organizations about bullfighting, and generally, the messages have been
very critical. I'll write more about developments at another time.
Your comments about the bullfighter got me thinking, about such issues
as attractiveness. Obviously, this isn't a world where people who do
hideous and horrible things look hideous and horrible, or a world where
hideous and horrible acts are always committed in places which look
hideous and horrible. Beautiful places can be the setting for cruelty
and cruel people often don't look cruel (although many of them do.)

Mélanie et Jérémie Darrieux ont eux aussi été plongés dans le monde taurin depuis tout petits. « Notre père fut responsable des corrales des arènes durant des années, raconte Mélanie.
