I'll be sending a copy of this email to Sheffield Labour Party Councillors and others.

My Website www.linkagenet.com  has an extensive page on Israeli-Palestinian issues, www.linkagenet.com/themes/israel.htm

I recently emailed all the Labour Party Councillors in Sheffield to draw their attention to material on the page which is critical of Councillors Blake and Gibson and specifically their support for the Palestinian cause. Since then, I've contacted other people in the Sheffield Labour Party and extended the material. It now includes an extract from the page where I discuss green issues and the Green Party, including Sheffield Green Party, www.linkagenet.com/themes/greenobjections.htm

As I make clear on the page 'Green objections,' my practice is 'green purist.'  But I don't regard the Green Party as my natural political home, far from it. I argue that people with  a strong interest in green issues should not think that voting for the Green Party is the natural, automatic choice. On the page 'Green objections,' I mention my allotments, where I've planted 25 trees, encouraged wild flowers and made a large wildlife pond, visited by dragonflies and damsel flies, from which young frogs emerge in large numbers each year. The allotments give me self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables to a significant degree. The page http://www.linkagenet.com/gardening/gardeningphotographs1.htm introduces my work in gardening and conservation in these allotments. Another page of the site criticizes the power of supermarkets and makes a case for small shops, whilst criticizing small shops which support boycotts of Israeli produce www.linkagenet.com/themes/supermarkets.htm  I've been an activist in the fields of animal welfare and human rights (for example, opposing the death penalty) over a long period of time. Although I share the views of Green Party members in these and so many other ways, there are significant differences.

The Labour Party is a far more diverse entity than the Green Party. It supports an organization Labour Friends of Israel as well as Labour Friends of Palestine. It includes Brexit supporters as well as supporters of the Remain position. Unlike the Green Party, it includes many, many people who have an appreciation of the importance of industry and technology. The Labour Party has many, many members who have a realistic attitude to defence, people who recognize that armed forces to resist external aggression are as necessary as a strong police force to resist criminality. Humane, enlightened states, states with a strong concern for the protection of the environment, states with other strengths, are vulnerable. Occupation by a state with no concern at all for these things would quickly put an end to their advantages. The Green Party encourages naive views which would be disastrous if the party ever came to power (very unlikely in Sheffield and even less likely nationally.)

My site has very high Google rankings for a very wide range of search terms. Some very recent examples, in fields to do with gardening, conservation, ethics, politics and others (literary results are included in case there are Green Party councillors who happen to have literary interests):

gardening conservation composting water collecting  1 / 28,700,000
structures plant protection support  7 / 182,000,000

[literary results included just in case there are green councillors with literary interests]

My page on Israel and Palestinian ideology issues direct challenges to people who support the Palestinian cause.

It gives the information that homosexuality is illegal in Gaza but legal in Israel. LGBT events are freely permitted - very common - in Israel but unthinkable in the Palestinian territories.

My page gives opinion poll results which give a disturbing insight into some attitudes which have significant  approval in the Palestinian territories. They include widespread approval of stoning to death for adultery, a practice not carried out in the Palestinian territories but carried out not so many years ago in Iran.

The Animals Australia film https://www.animalsaustralia.org/features/gaza-video-evidence.php gives evidence of horrific animal abuse in Gaza.

I give detailed arguments and evidence showing that the slogan 'Stop arming Israel' would have disastrous consequences if put into practice.

I think that Green Party Councillors and Green Party members in general would find it very difficult to comment on such issues as these and find it much easier to evade the issues. It may be that the Green Party is more robust, with a greater command of arguments and evidence than I supposed, but I doubt it.

I intend to add a page to the site which is almost entirely free of criticism of people in political life, one in which I show my appreciation for Sheffield City Council and the House of Commons and other institutions. I may disagree strongly with the views of so many Councillors and MP's, but I don't have a cynical attitude to people who contribute so much to the political life of this country.  The rule of law is overwhelmingly important, even when there are manifestly unjust laws on the statitute book. I don't have a cynical view of the rule of law, or the people who are involved in the legal institutions  of this country. Reform of the law is important in this case, not action which undermines the rule of law. Democratic debate is overwhelmingly important, the institutions in which democratic debate takes place are important and action which undermines democratic institutions is to be condemned. Nigel Farage's comment, in connection with the House of Commons, that he was 'near to enemy territory' is to be condemned. The storming of the Sheffield Council chamber by tree campaigners was a bad mistake, like the stunts undertaken in the House of Commons by groups as varied as Fathers 4 Justice and Extinction Rebellion. The tree campaigners made the mistake of supposing that the Council was to be judged by one issue alone, the trees issue, and the company Amey was to be judged by one issue alone, the trees issue - all the other work of the Council, all the other work of Amey, seemed to be treated as of no consequence. I think that so much of the Council's work is impressive, very impressive, and I don't make the mistake of thinking that because a Councillor has views on the Israeli-Palestinian issue which I believe are disastrously misguided, then the Councillor has no strengths at all.

Many of the pages of the site make use of 'Large Page Design.' They are wide as well as long. These pages can't be viewed adequately on the small screen of a mobile device.

Best Wishes,
Paul Hurt

I'd like to issue a direct challenge to Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine  to answer objections to the organization's view of Israeli-Palestinian issues. The page gives a very comprehensive account of objections. These are just a few questions which arise. There are obviously many more.

Could Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine comment on the fact that homosexuality is illegal in Gaza but legal in Israel?

I point out that animal welfare is important to very many people in Sheffield. Could Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine comment on this shocking video showing animal abuse in Gaza?

  https://www.animalsaustralia.org/features/gaza-video-evidence.php

Could Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine comment on my criticisms of the slogan 'Stop arming Israel?'

I regard it as important that the response of Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine should be published - the organization's response in detail, or the organization's failure to respond adequately or to respond at all. There are various possibilities for publication, such as joint publication on your Facebook page and my Website, or publication on a neutral site or third-party site.

I've already sent emails to all Labour Party Councillors drawing their attention to my page on Israeli-Palestinian issues and giving extracts from my critical emails to Councillor Blake and Councillor Gibson. These matters are now discussed in a new section of the page, underneath the image of Councillor Blake holding a Palestinian flag. It contains material on Sheffield Labour Friends of Palestine and your Chair, Julie Pearn. This section will be revised and extended.

I point out on the page that like many other pages of the site, it makes use of Large Page Design - the page is wide as well as long. It can't be viewed adequately on the small screen of a portable device.

Best Wishes,
Paul Hurt

As of 2018, Israel has been condemned in 78 resolutions by the Council since its creation in 2006—the Council has resolved more resolutions condemning Israel than the rest of the world combined.[11] By April 2007, the Council had passed eleven resolutions condemning Israel, the only country which it had specifically condemned.[118] Toward Sudan, a country with human rights abuses as documented by the Council's working groups, it has expressed "deep concern".[119]

The council voted on June 30, 2006 to make a review of alleged human rights abuses by Israel a permanent feature of every council session. The council's special rapporteur on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict is its only expert mandate with no year of expiry. The resolution, which was sponsored by Organisation of the Islamic Conference, passed by a vote of 29 to 12 with five abstentions. Human Rights Watch urged it to look at international human rights and humanitarian law violations committed by Palestinian armed groups as well. Human Rights Watch called on the Council to avoid the selectivity that discredited its predecessor and urged it to hold special sessions on other urgent situations, such as that in Darfur.[120]

The special rapporteur on the question of Palestine to the previous UNCHR, the current UNHRC and the General Assembly was, between 2001 and 2008, John Dugard. Bayefski quotes him as saying that his mandate is to "investigate human rights violations by Israel only, not by Palestinians".[121] Dugard was succeeded in 2008 by Richard Falk, who has compared Israel's treatment of Palestinians with the Nazis' treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.[122][123][124] Like his predecessor, Falk's mandate only covers Israel's human rights record.[125] The Palestinian Authority has informally asked Falk to resign, among other reasons due to viewing him as "a partisan of Hamas". Falk disputes this and has called the reasons given "essentially untrue".[126] In July 2011, Richard Falk posted a cartoon critics has described as anti-Semitic onto his blog. The cartoon depicted a bloodthirsty dog with the word "USA" on it wearing a kippah, or Jewish headcovering.[127] In response, Falk was heavily criticized by world leaders in the United States and certain European countries.[127] The United States called Falk's behavior "shameful and outrageous" and "an embarrassment to the United Nations", and officially called on him to resign. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, called on Falk to resign as well. The Anti-Defamation League described the cartoon as a "message of hatred".[128][129][130]

The UN Human Rights Council was castigated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for facilitating an event featuring a Hamas politician. The Hamas parliamentarian had spoken at an NGO event in the UN Geneva building. Israel's ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor denounced the speech stating that Hamas was an internationally recognized terrorist organization that targeted civilians. “Inviting a Hamas terrorist to lecture to the world about human rights is like asking Charles Manson to run the murder investigation unit at the NYPD”, he said.[131]
